Bracken, Amy June Morey (nee Boyce)
With profound sadness, yet a deep sense of gratitude for the wonderful example of life she lived, we announce the sudden passing of our beloved mother Amy June Morey Bracken (nee Boyce) on Thursday December 31, 2020 in her 95th year.
Amy was born on July 28, 1926 on her parents’ farm near Odessa to Clark and Annie (Smith) Boyce; the cherished sister of Dale (late Helen) Boyce and (late) Elinor Boyce. Amy attended Toronto Normal School and Queen’s University to become a teacher before devoting her life to her true love, marrying Frederick Bracken and settling down on the family farm at Ellisville, ON. Amy’s life was forever changed by Fred’s tragic accidental death on the farm, but she became our shining example of resilience, family and faith, rearing her 5 devoted sons. Quite simply, she was our “Queen Mom”, beloved by sons Brian (Tina), Donald (Anne), Alan (Penny), Andrew (Shelley) and Gary (Darlene); and was cherished by and so proud of her 11 grandchildren – Lynn (Chris), Kimberley (Jason), Bion, Thomas, Jennifer (Martin), Stephen, Mitchell, Taylor, Kieran, Liam and Emma, and her 3 great-grandchildren – Lucas, Caleb, and Charlotte.
Amy was a devoted and lifelong member of Olivet United Church, Olivet UCW-Willing Workers, church choir, and served over 40 years as church Secretary, as well as the Retired Women’s Teachers of Ontario, and the Joyceville Women’s Institute. She loved many of life’s simple pleasures: music, gardening, sports of all kinds, and doting on her grandchildren, but will always be remembered for her icicle pickles, and the at least 12,000 pies she baked over her many years for family and church functions.
Amy will be sadly missed by sister-in-law Margaret (late George) Bracken and brother-in-law Glenn (late Beverley) Bracken, both of Kingston and remembered lovingly by many nieces and nephews on both sides of the family. She also holds a special place in the hearts of the family of her best friend and companion, the late Eugene Dobbs (Bowmanville)- Darl, Marvin & Robert Dobbs, and Diane Moores.
The Bracken Family would like to express their thanks for the Home Care support Amy received through the SE LHIN, including St. Elizabeth’s Health Care and Care Partners, as well as the staff of the Seeley’s Bay Medical Clinic.
Due to COVID-19 Public Health restrictions, a private family visitation only was held at this time, with plans for a larger Celebration of Life in Amy’s honour held later this summer (Civic Holiday weekend) and Interment at Olivet United Church.
As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to Olivet United Church, University Hospitals Kingston Foundation (Cancer Centre), the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the charity of your choice.

Our deepest condolences to all the Bracken family on the loss of your matriarch, Amy. She dedicated her life to her family, and there is no more noble cause. She was a good neighbor over the 30 years that we've been here in Ellisville and we, like many, benefited greatly through her excellent pie baking skills. We wish you all peace and the measure of comfort that can only be found by wrapping yourselves in a warm blanket of so many beautiful memories.

Amy was such a wonderful example of a "totally well-rounded woman." She and Fred were best friends with my parents and I have always felt very close.
