I was shocked and deeply saddened to learn just yesterday of Charlie's passing. He and Irma were family friends ever since my parents moved to Portland in '71. They soon became part of all our family celebrations. He had a wonderful sense of humour and hearty laugh and we enjoyed a friendly banter over the years and always a big hug. I have many wonderful memories of the good times we all shared. They joined my parents on a wonderful holiday in Bermuda one year. He continued to keep in touch every Christmas even after my mother passed away and I would follow that up with a phone call. I promised him I would visit him in May during our RDHS 60 year reunion. Of course now, the only reunion taking place is the one with loved ones and friends in heaven. It is so particularly sad that due to the dreadful circumstances we all are experiencing at the present time, the community could not gather to pay tribute to him as he deserved. He was a pillar of the community, the church, the Masonic Lodge and the Eastern Star and will be sorely missed by all whose lives he touched. He was my last link with Portland and I will miss him very much. My heartfelt condolences go out to Barb and Bev and their families.

I was saddened to hear of Charles' passing. He was such a delightful man and full of what was good in a civilized life: kindness, energy, civility, integrity. I am glad I knew him and will mis that smile and wonderful hugs when ever we met. Jane Campbell

To Charlie's family. Don & I were sadden to hear about Charlie's passing. We have known him for years as a friend and fellow Mason. May it help you to know that we share in your loss. We will be missing our encounters at different social events around the community. May your family stay safe and healthy during these uncertain times.
Our heart felt sympathy

My sincere condolences to the Baker families. Charlie will be missed by the community and his many friends , The Elgin Diners Club will not be the same without him. I'll be missing that phone I would make to see how he was.
