It was a privilege to serve as a pallbearer at Lorne’s service earlier today, as He is part of many memories. Spending cherished times of my earlier years on the Hill, I recall the many trips of Lorne’s “Chapman Building Service” truck back and forth on Berryton Road (and I think Sterling made equally as many trips on an Allis-Chalmers tractor, or motorcycle, or snowmobile). Our families have lived beside each other for many years, and Lorne and Sterling were the best of neighbours as my Grandmother often said “never a bad word between us”. When we moved to the Hill and renovated the barn, Lorne stopped in to offer his approval and shared an interesting story of its history. Before and after that time I’ve listened to many other interesting stories told by Lorne and Sterling, and I will miss some of these future stories.

Sterling and JoAnn, Brent and Judy I wish that I could have been with you today, but it was not possible. Yet my heart and its memories have been very present with you. While my relationship is as my mother's cousin I've always considered Lorne as a favourite uncle. Things that I am remembering hearken back to the early fifties: watching Lorne with his brother playing baseball at the farm, watching their father Earl with the boys in the milking parlour. From an early age I realized Lorne's vocation and life calling was as carpenter and craftsman which developed into a much prized contracting business. Even in my most recent visit with Lorne a few years ago his eyes were alight as he displayed blueprints of his next project. Christine and I are thinking of you often and pray for God comfort in the coming days. We will stay in touch.

Dear Sterling and Family,
Lorne and I first met at Gray' Barbershop around 1970. We discussed house building and old cars. That was a worthwhile trip. He and his carpenters Ken Berry and Clifford Webb built us a fine family home at the farm and forty years later a garage at our retirement home. As always, business with Lorne was sealed simply with a handshake.
Lorne was a great visitor, always with quiet words of wisdom and a story to tell and always starting with the long drawn out word, 'well '. Then he would, proceed to tell in his modest way of his latest project or how he and Sterling
had enjoyed the latest Leafs and Habs game.
Lorne's legacy of dedication , and fine workmanship will live on through the many homes he built in our area and the gifts of sharing with his employees the value of an honest day's work always doing your very best.
Please accept our deepest condolences and may you take comfort in memories of Lorne's life so very well lived.
